The estimable Ivana Trump did what she does best on this Oxygen Channel program, guiding a wealthy single socialite to a profitable marriage. Weeding out the usual gigolos and gold diggers, the former Mrs. Donald Trump helped an attractive millionaire named Kathy land the "right" husband from a field of likely contestants -- and to make certain that she knew who was worth Kathy's time and who wasn't, Ivana planted a "spy" amongst the eligible bachelors: her own current boyfriend! One could only hope that Kathy's connubial bliss lasted longer than the fractious relationship between La Ivana and The Donald. Advertised as a miniseries when it first aired on April 29, 2006, Ivana Young Man was actually a two-hour special, though it certainly would have "gone to series" had the ratings been sufficient. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Ivana Trump helps woman find boytoys
By TARA MERRIN - Calgary Sun

It all started with a simple quote. Ivana Trump, the 56-year-old ex-wife of Donald Trump, told a London newspaper she would "rather be a babysitter than a nurse," when asked why she was dating a younger man and the people at Fox got an idea.

Why not ask Trump to do a reality special in which she helps a rich, older woman score a good-looking boytoy?

Now, two years later and a change of networks, Ivana Young Man is finally hitting the air and Trump couldn't be happier.

She says anything she can do to make these increasingly common May-December relationships more acceptable, the better.

"The guys are doing it all the time -- the guys are marrying the babysitters of their children. So, if they can do it, why can the girl not do it, too?" she tells the Sun.

"I've dated older men and I've dated younger men. The younger man is not set in his ways like the older guy is. They complain -- they complain about their backs, their bad knees and God forbid you ask them to put a tuxedo on -- it's like a major event.

"Young guys are more flexible and with my energy, I just really need a younger guy because older guys ... they slow down a little bit."

In preparation for Trump's reality show, producers scoured America in search of the right older woman.

Trump says while they received several applications, it took a long time to find Kathy Dahl, the well-to-do divorcee from Minnesota who's featured on the two-hour special.

"A lot of ex-husbands said, 'If you go on the show, I am going to take the kids away from you and things like that.' So even after the divorce, the men still wanted to control the women," says Trump, adding she is very pleased with Dahl.

"She is a self-made millionairess and she doesn't need a man for children because she has some. She just wants to have fun -- she just wants to enjoy life and older men either can't keep up with her or don't want to."

Finding six eligible 20-something bachelors to compete for Trump's favour and Dahl's heart, on the other hand, was a piece of cake.

"That was not that difficult -- you just go on the beach and you get 10 of them in one shot," she laughs.

"We ended up with some from all around America. Some of them are really nice and some of them are really jerks. You need both for a good show."

While Trump hopes the special is well-received, she does not have plans to turn it into a long-running series. The globe-trotting business woman says she, unlike her ex, doesn't have the time to host a show.

Ivana Young Man, which features a unique twist in its first-hour, airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. on the W Network.
